Anyone have a laser scanner on a romer arm? How accurate is it? We are researching the possibility of getting an arm for reverse engineering. Is this a good tool for this or is it very limited? Can you change from laser scan probe to a hard probe easily? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have requested a demo, but I would like advice from people who are actually using the machine rather than someone who is selling it. Thank you.

Randy,
We sell the laser scanner with the arm and also use it for contract inspection! In general terms we quote accuracy of + - .003". No better with an 8' arm. Smaller gets a bit better and longer a bit worse. But that is a general rule with all things being good! Any way we can be of service for you please visit our web site at WWW.exactmetrology.com or feel free to call us at 866-722-2600. We specialize is this kind of technology!
Good Luck!

Anyone have a laser scanner on a romer arm?
Yes I do
How accurate is it?
+/- .003 as accurate as the arm and maybe + .001

We want to start using to check all tools and not just reverse eng.
Is this a good tool for this or is it very limited?
Just started with polyworks. And let me tell you that polyworks is huge. So I can really say how limited it is. But you can't scan ribs and some features are next to impossiable if you cant get the scanner in there.
Can you change from laser scan probe to a hard probe easily?
Yes
ALSO we find that the scanner needs to be restarted often. But that could be the computer we are using with it. Also the middle red button on infinite romer sucks. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. If your working on the shop floor I suggest you get a loud speaker! Other then that I think it kicks faro`s butt. The scanner is much bigger and collects 3x the data. It also has more user options to have control on.Comment

We have been using the scanner for a couple of months now. It does a good job +/- .003 - .005. The problem that Alpha is having with restarting his computer is not the computer. We have the same problem and we have a new laptop that come with the arm and the scanner.Comment
