  • Run Only Programs

    Hi there,

    I have over 700 shopfloor programs and 3 CMM's.
The problem I have is the programs are always 'live'.
Any Tom,Dick or Harry can use them and unknowingly alter a program.

Is there a setting that I can activate that allows just 'run program' access to all my programs without 'error messages' and 'save as' appearing on the screen.

I having tried educating operators to use the 'Quit' button but to no avail.

    Any help would be appreciateed.

    Cheers Lee.

This is one of the bad things about PC-DMIS. Run them in Operator Mode as Tom pointed out or make the programs "read only" When the operators try to close a program it will prompt them to save as another file name. Then it is cancel or save it as another file name.

We have approximately 300 programs that get run regularly and over 1500 in the folder system on the network. Only once in a great blue moon do things not go right. Back ups, back up, back up.... the only way to cover back side.

How about marked sets? Operators will only have access to the icons created.

And lock them to prevet anyone from modifying.

I am in the same situation. I use the operator mode and all is fine. In order to use the operator mode and not get "Save as a new name" your permissions have to be set correctly. Definitely back all programs up, including probe files.

There was a VB SUI (Stupid user interface) that could be downloaded. I have used it in the past and it worked great. I had to modify the VB code some what but it worked.

Same situation also, running 4.1 on all the shop floor CMM's. The only problem w/ "operator mode" is you cannot view the probe calibration results in operator mode. Has anyone else noticed this or is this a problem w/4.1? I use "marked sets" then flag all shop floor programs as read only. Have not had any problems w/ "the monkeys" since.

I store all of the "Master" programs in special directories that only I and administration (read IT) have access to.
                  Lately, it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it's been.

I DON,T KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP.

Assuming you have purchased the necessary modules, and your port lock is properly configured,
                    you can launch PCDMIS
in different configurations. To do this,
                    1. Access the directory where the PCDMIS
executable shortcut is located (generally this is
                    located at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\PCDMIS
                    for
                    Windows).
                    2. Rightclick
in the directory and select New | Shortcut.
                    3. Follow the onscreen
instructions to have the shortcut point to where the PCDMIS
executable, pcdlrn.exe, is located (wherever you installed it).
                    4. Add any of these command line switches (or arguments ), following the shortcut's full
                    path to the executable:
                    /f for offline mode
/u for user privilege level when you are logged onto the system as an administrator
                    /o for operator mode
/r for reverse axes mode on the slave arm of a dual arm system
/p for pro mode (cannot use with /c switch)
/c for cad mode (cannot use with /p switch)

                    without this functionality
So if you want to run PCDMIS
pro in offline mode, the target location would look
                    something like this:
                    "C:\Program Files\pcdmisw\PCDLRN.exe" /p /f
                    You can also tell PCDMIS
to automatically open a specific part program (or part
programs) by appending a pathway string pointing to a part program as a command line
                    argument.
                    · When specifying a part program to load, however, you do not need the / character
required for the other arguments discussed above.
                    · To open more than one part program, type a space between each additional pathway.
                    · If your filename contains spaces, put the pathway within quotation marks.

There is another alternative that I have not seen mentioned in this thread.....STI. STI (Single Touch Interface) is an add-on module to PC-DMIS that does basically the same thing as the interface that cmccullough mentioned. It gives the operators a menu screen and allows them to click buttons to run your programs. Using STI does not allow modifications to your PC-DMIS programs. You can also use it to display your data in a sort of Power Point slide show. This can also benifit the operators by allowing them to know at a glance whether their parts are in spec or not (versus decipering a report). We have 3 cmms and use STI on our 2 shop floor units. It is working great!
