  • PROGRAMS FROM INCHES TO METRIC?

I believe I know this answer already, but is there a way to take a program made in inches and copy\rename\re-(something)\ to make it into metric. I have two parts almost identicle and I already have a program in inches, can I do something to have a copied program but in metric?

The only thing i know you can do is go into the measurement box for each dimension and check either inch or metric.

If you need to output dimensions in Metric, just click on the metric box in the dimension window.

But there is a way if needed.

S'far as I know, once you've started programming, you're committed. The only thing you can do is switch the dimension outputs.

            Vondy,
You can tell Engineering to give it to you in another format. They can scale it down or up. If they tell you they can't, they shouldn't be in engineering, because I can, and I'm not in engineering.

It will not change your program.. but I think I remember seeing a script that will do it for your dimensions on wilcox site don't know how good it works

As far as I know there is no way to convert the program to metric. You can change the dimensioning to metric. If you go to the wilcox site, you can download a script that will update all of the tolerances, from metric back to inch at one time. I have it and it works great.

                    Not Easy, that's for sure

There is definitely no easy way, BUT

A long time ago I wrote a BASIC program to do just that, as an experiment. It simply scaled every hit and every nominal by 25.4. THis is obviously not too bad if all you have is points in the program, but gets ever more complex with planes, lines, ellipses, etc. Back then, it also was easier to create because we had what was called DIMS import. DIMS was like a copy of the edit window in text form.

Anyway, it is probably do-able, but not worthwhile.

Thats cool that you made a program to do that. I really need to learn VB

Seems to me that I heard that 5.0 was going to give us that option. Start in MM and convert to inch and vise versa, within the PCDMIS pgm. Oh boy another whistle, or is that a bell? I just hope it's stable and I don't need three days of upgrade training to turn it on.

                          Hi Bill,
Version 4 seems pretty cool. It doesn't matter what it is, inch or metric. It may be like your talking about it. I'm not sure, but when I get time, I will check it out. But they did say something about it not mattering if it is inch or metric like it used to be. I just recently installed it, but haven't had time to set it up or program on it yet
