  • Nominals

    When you insert a scan, on the scan dialog box you have a pull down menu with that has findnoms on the left side then on the right side there is a button for get nominals. What is the difference between the two? Are they not accomplishing the same thing?

    This scanning stuff is pretty cool and I hope to have it down some day.

    Thanks
    Dan

    FINDNOMS will make it try to find the noms EVERYTIME you run it (bad, bad, bad), get nominals pulls them from the cad data for the CREATION of the scan only (unless I am not looking at the right things).

      So I would have find nominals to create the scan and once created I hit get nominals before I turn the scan into points?
      The other option below findnoms is master and I don't want that!

        OK, what you want is:

        NOMINALS = MASTER
        EXECUTE = NORMAL

        and on the right side is a button for GENERATE. Once you have the boundaries selected, click on GENERATE (with cad model only) then CREATE the scan without measuring it. This will give you a scan with the XYZIJK nominals matching the cad data. The NOMINALS=MASTER means that the nominals are going to be the same as when the scan was created (thus create, don't measure, then measure after you close the scan window). EXECUTE=RELEARN is for scans WITHOUT cad data so that the next time you run it, it will re-learn the surface, recomp for the probe, etc. The NOMINALS=FINDNOMS means that everytime it will try to find new nominal data for each touch, by finding the closest piece of cad data, finding the noms and then calculating the deviation.

        SO, if you have cad data, NOMINALS=MASTER, EXECUTE= NORMAL, but click on GENERATE after you have set the boundaries, then create the scan without measuring. Then your nomains, deviations, profiles will ALWAYS be to the cad data you had when you created the scan.

            I disagree with Matt here... But I could be wrong.. I do not think you want to have the master on.. That I was told is if you have a part that is a Master. I would use the find noms if you have a model... Matts older...ummm much.....so he could be right... Have a great weekend..

              Your right... I don't want the nominals from the part I want it from the model. The part I got is not the master, I want dimensions from the model.
              (If I'm thinking about this right)

              Thanks

                That is why you GENERATE the scan, then create it WITHOUT measuring it first. Then, ALL the nominal data is from the cad. And, since it is MASTER, it will then keep those nominals for ever.
