  • Find Hole Troubles

I just started using 3.7 MR3. I did not notice this problem with MR2. When using the find hole function if the tip starts into the hole and then hits the wall due to the hole not being square to the travel vector the location of the hole seems to be temporarily changed. This is hard to explain. For example, my hole is oriented 0,0,1 and located at 1,1,0. I want the hole to be measured at a location .025 below z=0. When the tip begins entering the hole it hits the side wall at z=-.05. PCDMIS then wants to reset the location of the hole to 1,1,-.05 it then moves as expected to try to locate the hole only now it will probe .05 deeper during the find hole. If in the second find hole location it does not contact it will then measure the hole at .075 deep rather than at .025 deep. Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if a default got changed when I installed MR3.

instead of using find hole have you tried using a remeas point?

Prehit/retract are ok. What does remeas point do? I have a small hole (.100 in) and am using a 2mm tip. So, the find hole works well to keep the probe from going in full speed ahead.

Remeasure is similar to "find hole", except it actually measures the feature twice with the same amount of hits specified in the auto-feature rather than searching for it with 3 hits and it does not allow you to "read new position" and "save as new target".

rmeas is using other features to locate another feature. think of it as a sub alignment, it is in the auto feature box, exp circle, surface point. ect. Is there suraces or other holes that are near this circle. in you feature box dont click on find hole, click on remeas, and choose ones that will define where it is at. if you dont have any make some as referance points. if you need better explaination, private message me
