Running ver 3.5mr2 on a Microxcel PFX CMM through a VB interface. All parts are located on rayco fixtures. At the start of each program an external alignment is recalled with the part's position on the fixture followed by an iterative then a best fit alignment so all the operator has to do is key in the part number and press run. Every few months the CMM crashes, it looks like that when its measuring in the y its missing the points by approx .030". When I run this program with the same part and fixture on the Mistral or Global it measures ok. When I qualify the Microxcel it calibrates fine showing no deviation. When I run the external alignment it fixes the problem. Before I started an engineer from B&S was called in but couldn't find any problem and it's just passed it's annual verification. Any ideas?

It could also be the cal.sphere being moved. Even with the Rayco plate I can "wiggle" it's location around .062" before tightening the bolt. If you don't relate it to your other tips that were used for your alignments, it can cause this too. When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

WOW! This just happened to Goodluck and now you too. Try hitting it on the granite that should keep you going until your new part arrives. You definately need to order a new joy stick/potentiometer assembly though.
