  • DCC Mode Error - or something.. I don't know

ok.. for those that don't remember, I'm new. very new.

    first off.. I'm using pc-dmis 3.5...

Ok I've been running this program all night on these parts we are making... and I'm SURE I haven't changed anything EXCEPT that I turned off auto printing to the printer... I don't need it, it's a waste of paper. I loaded the prog, turned off printing, saved the prog.

NOW when I run the program, normally when you take 3 hits to generate a plane, and then you get the "plane end" in the 'cmm commands' field of the 'execution mode options' box.... well I'm not getting that... don't have to press enter or done on the jog box or anything, it just runs along from there... not a huge deal, but when you get done with the last manual measurement, it jumps into DCC mode on it's own without warning, without waiting for you to press done... just all of a sudden your off and running...

what could have changed that would eliminate the requiring of pressing 'done' or enter at the end of a manual measurement? I've loaded other programs, and they work just fine...

    help!

    Thanks

ok.. I guess I discovered that part of the program is missing at the bottom.. don't know what happened there... but I see from the reports that were printing, I'm getting about 3 less dimensions on the report than I did before.. .>Sigh< I guess I go hunting for a backup.

      Hi Knt3424,
Go under Edit, Preferences, Setup, the General Tab, see if the "Press End Key" box is selected. If it isnt, that is your problem. Check that box and it won't take off without any warning anymore. Good Luck

If Rebeldude's fix don't work you can put in a operator comment. This will need you to press the done button

After fixing your problem, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP. I sometimes have 3 versions of a program. I never make changes to the original. I save as a different name, if it works I then save to the original name. I also back up my program files to the server once a week.
Experience taught me this long before using a CMM. I created a Lotus 123 spreadsheet, I set it up to open and close right from the sheet as my boss at the time wasn't computer saavy. Lost a half days work when I tested that "feature" because I hadn't saved. (this was the old days...("80's") before autosave.
When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

If I could just add one more not to John's. Back up your programs. I have one that is called 123Master, I save as, 123Master18MAY06, I work on that one. Now at when I am happy with it I save it as 123Master. The Next day I rename the 123Master to 123Master19MAY06. And will work on that. So that I have a Mater, A current and a day old, Then when's its proved out I always run the lasted date, say 123Master19MAY06. If for some reason it wont run, I open the master, run it, rename to current date, and all is well.

And we know your new, by your post numbers. and your user name. What so we call you Hey knt or whats up 3432? And most of all, no avatar. Though I think we are adding to Miller's Law. Which right now means you must have a animated avatar by post 199. The add on will be that no junior member may have a avatar, only full fledged members. We will let you know

Exit out of PCDMIS and run the settings Editor program from the windows START, PCDMIS for Windows, then go into the SendMNonGoManual and choose True. I have a Sheffeild CMM/Controller so there is a Sheffield option in mine, not sure what you have, but it's under that.
I used to be high on life but I built up a tolerance.

                  Waste of Paper

I also got tired of wasting paper. So I now write a little macro at the end of my programs that asks the operator if they would like to print a report. Just set up a yes/ no comment then a if/then statment that jumps to a repot command/ print report. Then on your main printing box set it to off and defualt that in your settings. Then when you are trouble shooting programs you will never have to remember to turn off and on your print commands.

I'm with TKING on this one. Thought it was just me. Now I don't know who is who. I look for the Avators to see who it is. I thought Tim was posting alot today.

Rebeldude: yes the checkbox was off... wasn't always, but we're pretty sure we have a corruption problem... it's happened to a few files...

Bill: did that cuz it was driving me nuts taking off on it's own...

John & Paul: yup... I do webdesign and computer maint. as a sideline business and have seen way to many customers lose too much because of no backups... talked with someone today and we are rectifying that situation.....

Paul: yes the numbers show I'm new to this forum, but wanted everyone to know that I AM new to cmm operation and programming, for those times when I say something stupid (it will happen if it hasn't already). I've done computers and quality forever (feels like) but I'm new with this company, working alone on nights and seldom a chance to ask anyone something ... unless I want to call the boss at 2:00am... also I have an avatar now of a sketch a friend did of me... (red shirt from previous job managing a centerless grinding shop)... it's not animated, but I'll see what I can do with it... any suggestions? make the head spin around? wink? also I put my name in a signature... couldn't see anywhere to change my display name to anything other than my login id... but you can call me anything... I've been called plenty!

tmead: any chance you'd share that print selection code with someone who's just starting out? I've done dbase (yes I'm old), msaccess, cobol (yes I'm that old) fortran (wow dude.. you are old!) and a few other things.. some basic... but everything has it's little quirks... haven't taken time to look at that in depth yet... but it sounds like an excellent idea!

thanks all! (did I cover everything?)

No, it hasn't and No, it won't happen. You will find a sarcastic, sadistic bunch of beer-drinking, guitar/banjo playing, Monty Python quoting (and/or any other great movie (IE Animal House, Blues Brothers, but NOT American Pie), oddballs here. But all of us have been there more than once and will be there again. I've learned more here than from any "classes" I took. You will soon see a great sense of camradarie (spelling?). I've only met two or three of these guys face to face. But consider many my friends. (Not you Paul!)

"Welcome in my Friend to the show that never ends! Come inside, come inside."-ELP (I took a little poetic license there.)
