  • TP20 Lifespan?

I have a couple (1Std.force,1Med.force) TP20's that are getting worn out, they sometimes won't trigger (scary eh?) and I was wondering what the life expectancy of these are? Number of hits, years, whatever. I need to gather info for the bean counters before I walk up with my hand out asking for money.

Also, has anyone bought from people on Ebay? I need options.

I was told 1 million hits by Renishaw. So if you do any scanning like I do, you eat them up. $900 a piece

Are these modules or the TP20s themselves. TP20s last a while but is dependent upon useage. Is it removed and re-installed frequently? Crashed frequently? Modules do not last nearly as long, again depends on usage. I don't RBE the modules, brand new is only slightly more and waranteed.

Can't really say about the TP20 but the TP200 has a Sensor life in excess of 10 million triggers.

Ok, thanks....BTW, WTH is RBE Craig? Acronyms suck. LOL. (especially when you don't know them!)

RBE is repair by exchange. You get a discount if you send in your old unit in exchange for the new unit.

As a side note, you said the TP20 won't trigger. Are you using magnets to hold your parts? If so that may be the problem. You'll need to get a Non-inhibit module.

My oldest TP20 module is about 2yrs old. Once in a blue moon it doesn't trigger. Not sure if it's the contacts but I clean them once in awhile to make sure.
I used to be high on life but I built up a tolerance.

We do use magnetic chucks, but the ones not triggering are old, they are losing the "chrome" finish on the magnets. Is there a way to tell if the ones I'm using are Non-Inhibit? Oh, and when using magnetic chucks, the shortest shank length i use is 30mm. We most frequently use 4x50 ceramic shaft styli, but I do also use a 1x10, and 2½x30 fairly close to the chuck (but never seem to have aproblem) And when I say the probe won't trigger, all i have to do is "flick it" and it seems to come back to life.

And one more question, and this one has been bugging me for YEARS...........
Why is it when you fart in the shower it smells far worse than normal?

                Just curious.

I believe it's relative to the clean smell of the shower.

Mabye we should take a poll in the off topic forum.

They stink worse simply because your sense of smell depends upon moisture. If your nose is totally dry, you can't smell as much as you could when it is moist. Thus, dog's noses are (blood hounds in particular) moist, much more so than ours, because the reception of the molecules that carry scents is dependant upon the recepters in the nose being able to accept them (as well as how many there are) and they can only do this when moist. So, when you are in the shower, your nose is extremely moist, thus your scent receptors are working at a higher efficiency, thus the farts smell 'more'.

Just how long have you been waiting for that question to come up anyway?
