  • DATAPAGE-Is it worth it?

I am looking for some information on DataPage. What I would like to know is if DataPage is good for doing lot checks?
I run alot of lot checks (about 20-22) parts at a time. I then have to get the high and low of these parts. Right know I am using the Excel sheet that has been going around. I don't really care for the way I have to manipulate the Excell sheet to get the results I need.I have not been able to get the info to load directly into the sheet when it is done. I am using the test version with the red arrow on it. I works good, but then I have to pick the cells I want and do a function to get my MIN and MAX dimensions.
I am looking for something that will automatically load the dimensions after the program is run and when the last part is finished it will give me a report that I can print out.
On the report it should have all the deminsions and the range of them. I have been told Datapage will do this. I know I will have to work with it to make it the way I want to.
I am about to go to my boss and ask for Datapage. Can ya'll give me some feedback on:
    Is it worth the trouble?
    Is it easy to use?
Can I set it up to do what I explained?

    Thanks ahead of time

Yes, it will save you valueable time, and company money. Analize seconds after running part. Its really user friendly. Buy it. Its worth it. Get GR&R option, if you do GR&R's

I have been waiting to ask this, knowing it might sound stupid, but since I am fairly new at this, here goes, What is GR&R? I have seen that phrase alot. Just don't know what it is. I guess we don't do it since I am not sure what it is.

As far as I am concerned, doing any kind of multiple part runs/reports/studies would be a major pain in the rear end without some kind of SPC data collection software. Datapage works flawlessly with Pcdmis (at least for ME it does) and I have never lost data while using it, with the single acception of having the XSTATS11.TMP file issues. AND, you will know right away if there is an issue, so all you need to do is SAVE the program, fix (read that DELETE) the XSTATS11.TMP file, then have Pcdmis send the data again and you are set to go. You can print right from Datapage whatever report you want (need) or you can save them as TXT files, open them with Excel, and 'pretty' them up. You can NOT, directly from Datapage, save CHARTS to a file, but CUTE PDF WRITER will let you do this.

You know... it really wouldn't be that hard to write up a VBA script to import data dynamically and have Excel generate it's own charts and graphs based on the measured, nominals and tolerances brought in from PC-DMIS. It would take some time, but certainly, wouldn't be hard. We have QC-Calc and just by looking at it, I think the guys who sell that must wake up laughing thinking about how much they charge for it.

Geez, give me 50-70 hours and I could probably come up with everything they do and more with nothing by VBA scripts for Excel. And I'm not even that good with VB, get someone who knows what their doing and it could be done in less than a 40-hour week I bet.

Thats one of my problems, I don't know anything about VB in Ecell or any other stuff. I wish I did. I have looked at it and thought I would like to know more so I could manipulate it.

Gauge Reproducibility And Repeatability, I will get you website to check out. It basically is a test, that you perform, with more than one operator, to see if everytime you load a part, it will seat the same way and give you repeatible numbers. A gage must pass a GR&R in order to use it, per the Big 3

I use datapage for all my parts that I need to save data. I do dump everything into datapage then I write excel macro's to take that data and format it into something that my boss likes. Besides everyone is into emailing everything so he can email it to whomever he needs to at that point. Excel macro's are easy to do, all you may have to do first is make a template to how you want the data to look like for an end product. This way you can have you min/max/stdev/avg/etc... all setup for you in your template. They work great for me. I also had to use minitab at another job and the same macro's worked for that too.

If you get Datapage you should also get Dataview. That way you can print a road map of the part with charts pointing to the feature.

I hear dataview is not user friendly. And time comsuming. Can I have some feedback.
