  • Tool changing noob

    hey,

I have 2 sets of tooling that I have to use to measure one part. One with a 350mm extension and another with a 590mm extension. I can qualify these tools in 2 seperate tipqual routines one does the short one does the long. I do these alignments once a day at the beginning of the shift (Fixture alignment) with the shorter tools.

We then start runnig our programs, it starts out with the shorter tool, then towards the end we swap em out and finish the program with the longer tools.

Do i have to do an alignment with both sets of tools?

(I've not set anything up like the above yet, and have a month or so to get it done)

and yes its the week end and I'm working.

    what probe?

Are you using a tp2, tp20, tp200, or other? Regardless, if you have a repeatable connection that you are switching out, then no you should not need to re-align, the probes should be in sync having both been qualified on the same calibration tool, if and only if the calibration tool was not moved between qualifing the 1st and second tip. But if you are unscrewing and reattaching any connection, then you must requalify. If the calibration tool has not moved from where it was when the 1st tip was qualified, then you should be able to proceed without a new alignment.HTH

TP20, and we'll be changing out at the autojoint the extensions are before the body. What you said makes sence and was kinda what I thought I just wasn't sure.

Gonna try and put both setups into one canned routine so we make sure operators dont move the artifact between tipquals. Thanks WES!

Yes it's sunday.. and I'm still FORKING HERE! yay overtime.... (loud silence)

        Sunday, Sunday

Small compensation I know, but take heart, you aren't the only one! Seems to be a common plague of the profession.
