  • Clear Planes and scrambled eggs

    Please help me get this straight.

    Is my Clear Plane relative to the CAD axes ? It must be, but the machine acts as though it wants to go into outer space with this error:

    Please explain.

    Is the clear plane relative to the CAD axes ?

    Specifically, when should I establish my clear plane ?
    I.E. after picking up on the part manually, before I insert my alignment ?

    The reason I ask this is because if I'm doing an iterative alignment, I need clear plane moves. In order for the CMM to move to my clear plane, I have to tell it to. If I toggle the Move_Clearplane box when I manually measure each Auto Feature as I pick up on the part...............well.

    Can anybody see where I'm not getting this ?

    You have to define it after the first alignment or you get this error.

    Post some code and maybe we can be of better help.

                  While on DCC, press F10 and setup your clearplane

                  Should be something like:

                  CLEARP/ZPLUS, 0.5, ZPLUS, 0, ON

                    #1) Measure features for MANUAL alignment, in MANUAL mode, do NOT set a clearance plane
                    #2) Make a MANUAL alignment
                    #3) After the manual alignment, establish your clearance plane and turn it on
                    #4) Make a DCC alignment (at least one)
                    #5) Check the part

                      The error may not be from the Clearance plane. It could be from something else. Does this happen on all programs? Did it just start happening with this program?

                        Another way to skin this cat is to not use clear planes at all until you've finished your final alignment. Prior to that IF your moves are all straight up, you can sometimes just use the MOVE DISTANCE with each feature. CAUTION!!!!! this does not always work!!! If your approach vector to the feature is not going to allow you to get above the part with a move distance, this will not work and you will crash going to the next feature. Set it to BOTH and give it a distance to get above your part and you should be ok. Once you have your alignment, you can turn on clear planes and they will be relative to the alignment that they were created in.

                        Also you can use move points instead of MOVE DISTANCE or CLEAR PLANES. Simply teach the move points as you would normally and when the auto portion of the Iterative alignment runs, it will follow the move points even though you aren't in DCC mode yet.
