  • Posting CAD info into report

I have been posting CAD source file information at the beginning of the dimensional report. I just copy/paste into a report comment.

Does anyone know if there is a way to automate this so that this information pops into the report without going through the steps to manually do it?

What are you steps for copying it? I do not work with cad if I don't have to so my experience there is nil. But I may know a trick to get info where you want it.

      Click on "View"

      Pick CAD surface

A dialog box opens up with much information including the source file and the date of import.

I select that info and copy it to the clipboard then paste it into a Report Comment.

OK, if there is a way it is beyond me. I might be able to handle some of it but it is the part about picking the surface that would present the biggest problem. Do you only post selected data or do you post for every surface?

If there is only one CAD model (not an assembly) then picking any surface gives you several bits of information about the surface (or hole or whatever) and always is included the source file and date imported.

I am sure the info is stored somewhere in the PC-DMIS program file but I don't know of any other way to access it.

That is exactly what I am after. That is why I was wondering if you post all surfaces or data only for surfaces you measure a feature/dimension from. If that is the case it may be possible. My guess is it is kept in aqnother file but there may be an association or something that you can get a reference to either through PCDMIS or external script. Be nice to see someone here point you the right direction or at least get a couple of us on the right trail, it sounds like a neat one to tackle.

Probably the .CAD file that is associated with the inspection program.
I don't know how to extract information from that.
