  • CMM NOT RESPONDING

    Good Morning,
I need your trouble shooting knowledge. I have a Brown & Sharpe 9-12-9 Excel CMM, Sharpe 32 Controller, Dell Comp / XP with PC DMIS 3.2063.
Friday, I had the machine shut off getting ready to bail, when I received a call, a customer wanted to see a cpl of their gauges. So I decided to put them on the cmm, therefore I had to move the carriage to the front, to make room. Ok, I did my startup as usual, turning the controller on first, then the comp, then opening PC DMIS. Everything was working as usual, boot up - ok, PC DMIS opened - ok, as always I hear a click when the comp communicates with the controller, them cmm began to home - ok, this is where the problem begins.
Almost home, the carriage ( bridge ), stops, with a hiss of air and the LED on the ph10 went out. It is just like I turned the cmm off. Then I get the message: CMM NOT RESPONDING. Does anyone have any ideas???????????

    Thanks in advance,
    A.Gore

Did the CMM bridge hit something? Or could there be dirt on the rails? Is your air pressure at the proper setting? I had problems because ours went lower than it should.
When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

The rails are clean, there was no obstruction and the air pressure is at 68 psi. I also have the cover off and checked the pressure switch, everything there is ok.........

      Thanks,

Hello again, I got it going. All I did was go back thru the trouble shooting pattern. I guess it was a dirty / dusty connection. Who knows,,,,,,,,,,it is a cmm. Have a great day everyone.

this is a long shot but if you have a tp20 make sure it is seated properly and clean. pop it off and put it back on.
