  • Stp Import from Pro/E

    Hi all!

I have problems importing stp models created in
    Pro Engineer.(missing surfaces)
I would be very grateful if someone running version 3.7
or higher could try importing the files.
In the attached zip archive there is 2 files created with
    different settings.
    I am running 3.5 MR2

    3.7 MR3

    I just opened both files.
I didn't see any holes, except on both parts, a very small (possible) hole at the back of the oval slot.

I am running a different version than you however.

    Lately, it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it's been.

I had a similar problem. I am not much of a Pro/E jock, but something must get lost in translation.

I had to get the direct Pro/E import tool (File/Import/Pro_Engineer) from Wilcox. That did resolve all my issues.

Maybe there are ways around this in Pro-Engineer because some of my (always very large) models came in successfully through STEP, and some never worked. I have no idea why that would be. I had never any luck with the IGES translation. Again though, after I could import native Pro/E, all my model issues evaporated.

Sorry for not being more helpful....

Did you try exporting this as a igs file. sometimes that works when step doesn't . the nice thing about Pro E is it is so easy to alter the cad model origin to the way you have the part set up on the machine.

Just imported both these models and there is no problems.

I use ProE daily and have found sometimes step works best and othertimes iges. I have always attributed this to a combination of things mainly the way the model is created and / or the selections that have been made when exporting to another format.

I am Running 3.7MR3 for info

            Good luck

I have now solved the problem!

I tried a lot of different export configurations in pro/e
and found a setup that works.

Whow, tell me: how did you fix it? I'd like to know! What is the magic setting? Please post some more instructions! I have had the same problems.

Put the config file in the directory that you are
                  exporting the stp file to.
At least this works for me (Pro/E wildfire 2.0)

Running 3.7 MR2. Everything looks good to me. Is there a particular area that shows up bad for you?

We also use WF2.0. But this does not seem to work for me. Oh well, I have the direct Pro input feature now. I guess I must be happy.

What happens in my case is that complete surfaces or cuts are missing. It seems as if in the translation some of them just get skipped. I tried to figure out whether that was something that Pro does, but I got nowhere. Some models have this problem, some don't. It seems to get worse if the more parts are assembled to the part (like the fixture and all it's details).
