  • Out of memory

    3.7mr3
This is a new one for me. I went to work on a program and it hung and gave me a box that said I was out of memory. I checked, I wasn't. Rebooted, same thing. Virtual memory is double recommended. Called BnS and ended up sending several items, debug file, program file, cad file, probe file, and a screenshot. Downloaded supposed fix from wilcox site and installed. Still same problem. BnS tells me there is an issue surrounding this matter but does not affect every user. They are now sending me a beta version that is supposed to have this issue fixed.
Have any of you dealt with this?

It might be something with your video memory and not your cpu core memory. I would adjust the video resolution down and change it to 16bit if it isn't already. Let me know if this helps.

Ummm not sure if your running XP or not. If you are maybe 2 options for you. Change your XP look to classic windows. The other option would be to grab the fix for memory allocation at wilcox.

        Hope this helps.

I've had this too. It happens to me when I'm starting a new program and select AUTO FEATURES. It hangs and you're done. My work around has been to go to my other machine and start the program there, save it to the network and then open it on the machine that I want to be using.

              Bill,
Thanks but we have just the one machine. Besides, I'm of the opinion this shouldn't be happening and It should be fixed.
              Johnson,
Yep we're running XP and I did download and install the fix from Wilcox
              All
I reinstalled and it seems to be working for now. I reckon I can limp along until I get the Beta version that is supposed to fix this from BnS. Thanks for the input.

                Just a note:

When you start up PCDMIS and open task manager (ctrl-alt-del) it will show you how much memory it's using. I get about 150mb's fully loaded not even running a program. Try running one and watch how much more memory it will take

If you have alot of virtual memory it could just be PCDMIS (poorly written programming)

Not bashing PCDMIS but this is something to ponder:

Every 32-bit program has an API/Hook into Windows, that should access a "garbage collector/cleaner"

That process should clean out memory use as often as possible

If the memory usage never comes back down, then the app needs to be looked at, and patched or re-written

"Adjust for best performance" is a correction for a MS bug using toolbars when running XP. "Out of resources" is the normal message you would be seeing for this issue.

I've had this same problem using all the versions of 3.7. Using 3.7 MR3 on 3 shop floor cmms now and only one of them has this error. We have to reboot everyother night. I have contacted customer service about this but was told nothing about a beta version.

I believe V3.7beta uses less memory - or at least holds steady on memory/gdi usage.

I was having the same problem, i tried the B&S hotfix..no luck, tried setting XP to classic mode (best performance setting)...no luck. Finally a B&S tech had me delete my CustomMenuItem.dat,GBarState.dat,and ExecuteBarState.dat files.
And ya know what, it worked! I WAS crashing like 5-7 times a day! Now I haven't crashed in 3 weeks, NOT ONE TIME! Give it a shot (ya have to end up rebuilding your custom toolbars, but well worth it!)

I know how ya feel, I have a brand new Dual Core P4 with 2GB of RAM and an nVidia Quadro 4000 SLi card and it was telling me I was out of memory!?!?! WTF!?!?

                          All good now though.

Well I should get the Beta version today (they overnighted it). I'll let you know the results.
djayne, you might try calling them again or trying Sl33stak's remedy.
Sl33stak, I seem to remember doing that before with good results, but I don't think it stays fixed as evidenced by my current situation. 'Course I'm old and periodically run out of memory too.
                            Thanks for the input.

Just an update as promised. I installed the Beta version and all seems to be fine. I hate having to go thru and reset everything again though. There's stuff I don't remember where it was and have to go back thru my notes.
                              Anyway, thanks for the help.
