I'm upgrading my pc. Dea Gamma cmm, Tutor P controler, pcdmis 3.5 mr2.
here's what I inheited my old pc has got 4 hard drives c/d/e/f Its using pcdmis from drive C and my Tutor folder from drive D so the guy who calibrated the cmm last time said.
So i've copied my tutor folder to new pc. and hooked everything up installed pcdmis. Came up with no volcomp error.
Then copied a few of the files from old pcdmis folder comp/compens ect that I thought might help. wrong.
So I copied the pcdmis folder to the new pc.
Now I get a can't find cmm when I stat pcdmis.
    Any thoughts would be great.

You need to have a drive D with the Tutor folder on it so Pcdmis can find it where it is looking for it. Try partition magic to add a drive D and the folder or put the old drive d in the new computer.

Can you manually move the machine with the jog box? If not, check your com ports and their settings in TUTOR. I have a GAMMA & I know that these sometimes get jumbled up when upgrading.

no I cant move the cmm. How do I check this I know in pcdmis I'm using com1 and com2 but my pc (control pnl) says com 4 and 5. Ive got my IT guy coming to look at it. I've asked them to do this for 5 months and finaly got fed up and started myself. how do I start tutor to verify what drive and files its using? Having so many drives and copies of everything on each I would like to verify what the heck is going on.

OK I've changed my com ports to match and the machine seems to work. I can load programs. Now comes the testing phase.

I know one time, the guy that did our cal/cert argued about the baud settings in TUTOR. He changed 'em and the CMM disappeared. I put them back to where I had it set and everything worked again. He said, "That isn't right. It should be the way I changed it." Well, you tell the machine then.
I have since made screen printouts of all the TUTOR configuration setting pages, just in case.

IT guy doesn't want to partition hard drive.
Ive got the machine moving but wont index the ph9?
may be looking for files on drive D which I dont have .
com ports seem to be ok now?
              any solution?

If partitioning the drive is what you need to get your machine to work, how does the IT guy get to overrule that? Not much of a team player. I've had the PH9 index problem before. Unlike other peripherals for which it doesn't matter which serial port you plug into, the PH9 must be plugged into the same one it was configured for (SP1) You may need to set this up on the new comp. I had an IT guy plug the PH9 in to SP2 and it would not work.

Sounds like you still have an issue with a com port. One talks to the TUTOR P controller and the other is for the Renishaw controller. I'll take a look and see if I can find wy com settings.

Open up the Settings Editor, and search for a "HasPH9" option. This value should be set to 1.

now is that under dea interface
                      hsph9 mine=0
                      or
                      user machine
                      hasph9 mine = none

I agree the com port seems to be the culprit.

my IT guy from corporate left and said he'd be back next week..

Most software won't let you copy folders over to another drive because the windows registry calls out specific drives and paths. If you do copy, then you would have to re-customize everything including com port, search paths, etc.
I used to be high on life but I built up a tolerance.

                            New pc update

Looks like new PC is working. Initial test check ok. I exported settings from old pc and imprted on new pc. I setup and checked a fixture, then hooked old pc up and ran program and it checked the same. But for now staying with old pc, GM is in for the next several days.
                            Thanks for the help.
