  • Disable "F9" ?

In numerous instances we are provided with a model,
but told by customer the blueprint takes precedance.
In this situation, I include the model for visual purposes
only, if I don't, the operator will.
I add a note that the model is for reference only.
But I know some points get F9'd to the model
and when this happens is no longer necessarily to the blueprint.
Is there a way to, in a program, enter a line or script, that
    will basically disable "F9".
The 2d CAD package we had allowed us to overwrite any
command in the software (to customize it).
Can I overwrite the F9 function to display the message
"F9 is not allowed, model is for reference only"
    Any other suggestions?

Tell the operator to leave things alone. I don't have a clue as to how to do what you want, but if it is possible someone here will know how.

Everytime you catch them changing something, SHOOT 'EM! Then they'll learn, and mighty quick, too.

      Can you:
      1) Set it up for operator mode? They will not be able to change anything that way
      2) Set the programs to READ ONLY? Again, they will not be able to save changes, they will be able to MAKE changes in the program, but they won't be able to save them.
      3) Shoot them if they make changes until they learn to leave stuff alone?

      (I like idea #3 best)

I'd change on thing in #3. Kick them in the b*lls instead of shooting them.
Shooting will kill them and then you need to train another one!
When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

Does the operator understand what for referance only means, and what happens when they f9 to the model? I agree with Matt shoot them in the foot the first time, then in the hand the second time. The last time is your choice.

              why waste gunpowder?

I would suggest breaking fingers. If you have any so stupid/stubborn that you run out of fingers, let them go. This could be a good way to weed out the "shop monkeys".

But seriously, try option #1 and #2 in my first post first, one of those options WILL fix the problam, if it is, as you said, OPERATORS doing this, not 'programmers'. Operators should ONLY have the ability to RUN a program, nothing more, and that is what the OPERATOR mode does.

                  Russ,
You can go into View, Toolbars, Keyboard tab

Go to Category, "Edit", be sure menu on the right of this is "Main Window"

                  go down to Command

In box, it will say current shortcut is F9

You can change it, delete it (remove) or even reassign it>

                  Good Luck

That's pretty handy, rebel, I have never had the need to look at any of that stuff so I didn't even know it was there (my night shift operator/programmer KNOWS that I like option #3).

I have no problem using F9 to verify a point on the model as long as the output uses the print nominal. Sometimes you need to verify vectors, and as long as the output is correct thats all that matters.

Am I dumb for working with models and not knowing what F9 does?

I'd better get a vest, sounds painful!!!

F9 is the shorcut to edit whatever line of code the cursor is on, when you do it to an autofeature it open the dialog box fro that feature so you can edit it.

                          Bang..Bang

Ok I feel stupid.. I've used this many times but this thread made me afraid to touch it.

I can see why it would be a problem, thank you.

I use it daily, don't be afraid of it,it's a great tool but like any tool you have to understand its uses and affects.
