    First, I don't use 4.2

Second, what are you using search and replace for? I know with previous versions that it can be dangerous to use.

What a long, strange trip it's been.

Well, here is why I asked what you are using it for...

Lets assume you have measured a feature and used it in alignments and dimensions and such. Now, you want to replace that feature with another one which is in the same location but maybe an autofeature instead of a learned feature.

So, you insert and autofeature right before the learned feature. Now, how to replace all of the references to the learned feature??? Hmmm, find and replace seems like it would work. So, you find and replace the learned feature's name with the autofeature's name. Guess what, it renames the learned feature to the autofeature's name and now you have two features named the same. If that didn't create a pcdlrn you now delete the learned feature. Which feature were all those alignments and dimensions linked to? If they were linked to the learned feature all those references are now gone and you can expect a physical crash when it gets to the alignment which is now missing a reference.

Now, lets say you weren't trying to replace a feature. What if you were trying to replace a tolerance. Lets say you want to replace .01 with .001. Guess what, it replaces any number anywhere in the program that begins with .01 with .001. So, that very first dcc feature which has a nominal of .01 now has a nominal of .001!

I bothered to respond because the information given was not necessarily enough to limit the problem to a version and not a pc-dmis wide (regardless of version) problem.

Also, I noticed that no one else had responded after about 10 minutes (we are usually pretty quick) so:
            1) No one else has experienced the problem - indicates to me that maybe the problem isn't with 4.2mr1.
            2) With all the other stuff going on on the forum, your post could have been overlooked by someone who might have an answer for you. By posting I brought the thread back to the top of the pile and increased its chance of getting noticed.
            3) People may not have completely understood the problem and therefore not posted a reply. My question of what exactly you are using search and replace for may have gotten some specifics from you which could have jogged someone's memory or clarified the problem.

Sheesh! I was just trying to help.

ok I can see your point goodluck

what I was searching for and replacing was a number.

I had taken multiple lines around a perimeter of a part, about 20 lines.

these were joystick driven lines with 2 hit points each.

I wanted to change these lines to 5 hit points each and it is easier to do the search than scrolling and double clicking and all that.

a simple thing that has NEVER been a problem in previous versions (to my limited knowledge)

now try loading 4.2MR1 and see if you do or do not have the same issue

What I always do is use the search function by itself - no replace. Then, it will find what you want to replace and you can evaluate on a case by case basis if it is indeed what you want to replace. Then, if you want to replace it, you can do so at that time before moving on to the next occurance.

I have not had a problem with doing it this way in any version I have used but maybe it is different in 4.2mr1

As with bob I use the replace feature extensively. And have never had a problem.
I am not at 4.2 yet but am glad that he posted this as if it is causing him a problem it's bound to do the same for me.
Using it on a case by case basis is not using it at all. And nothing to do with the question.
He reported a problem; he asked if anyone else had come across it. I pretty sure he already knew that "going through on a case by case basis" ("NOT USING IT") would be a way around the problem.

WOW, Not using a long-standing function of Pcdmis because an update screwed it up. Man, I have never heard of that happening before. (well, at least before I started using Pcdmis, anyway)

                              issue resolved

find an replace works better now, Tech support called and helped on this one

instead of searching for the value alone....as in "2"
                              search for "line,2"
                              replace with "line,5"

works fine this way...you have to use a "word"

it's not quite like in say a MS Word document where you can search for anything, you have to refine your search somewhat....
