Port Lock Updates

Hexagon normally sent us the executable port lock updated files by email put unfortunately any email that is sent to our company that has executable attachments are drop out of the email. What we use to do in the past was rename the file extension from .exe to .ex_ and this would let the email through. What now happens is any email sent to us with attachments are checked and if it is determined to be an executable file is dropped out of the email. Does anyone else have this problem when receiving their port lock update files through email? I did ask the person I am dealing with if Hexagon had a FTP site that I could get the port lock updates from put they said no.

Must be your 'server' blocking you. Changing the extension has always worked for the file they send us. HOWEVER, you CAN try setting up an account with HOTMAIL (free) and have them send it there, maybe you can get around it that way....

Well, they might then have to BUY a piece of software. Oh wait, it comes with XP for 'free', don't it? Well, I guess it would be TWO MORE MOUSE CLICKS for them and that would just over-tax them for the day.

Most good A/V software will scan ZIP files looking for .exe files. I send files and post files on my FTP by changing the extension from .exe to .txt and have never had a problem with that.

If the guys IT department wont relax the A/V scan on at least .txt files then regular mail or fedex is the only other solution... or just turn the problem of getting the update over to IT altogether. Sometimes making it their job, will change their minds.

With the amount of spam these days, I wouldn't recommend easing your firewalls. Request a zip file and/or hardcopy on a CD.

Those are all good idea's but to get around it I had Hexagon send it to my house and brought the file in the next day on my memory stick made life much easier and I didn't have to deal with our IT Dept.

Wow, then I would send it to a personal email account and download it from there. Yahoo and MSN works well.
