  • old manual CMM

I have an old Manual CMM.
    it's a Mitutoyo BH305.
We don't use it anymore, its software is not up to date.
It also doesn't have enough computer power to do much.
It uses a DOS software Geopak 2000
It only has 120 MB hard disk/ 4MB RAM.
Would you agree that PCDMIS it too expensive for this?
That We would have to buy a new computer for it to use PCDMIS?.
Any suggestions on how to find a new home for this?
I will give a great deal.

Seems you have no use for it anymore. So why not excess it?

Call B&S; they may be willing to trade your machine for something else. Like an off-line seat or something.... Or whatever some other hardware, or maybe cash.

Another company that does a lot of upgrades, is Xpect Solutions: http://www.xspectsolutions.com/DEFAULT.aspx . I never worked with them, but I know they will take it off your hands.

The cost of a new computer would be a drop in the bucket compared to the total expense of PCDMIS.

I would say though, not knowing the machine if it is a good solid machine it may still be worth it. We have a manual machine here (Sheffield Cordax) that is a rock. If I could get PCDMIS on it that thing would be employed 100 fold. It is pricey and a hard sell to the organization but if you are the one making the decisions you should asess it. I know nothing about that machine though.

We have one of those also. We upgraded it to PC-DMIS but it doesn't get used any more (or less) than it did when it had OFI-3PLUS or MMIV installed on it. About the only time it gets used is when Henger and I import Catia V4, V5 or Unigraphics models on it (it's the only one int the plant with translators).

We have a Sheffield Cordax, 20 years old and upated to the hilt. The only bad thing about it is, it's completely manual. I've been driving it for 10 years now. Went from Measure Max to PCDMIS in January. It's like getting a microwave in the 90's. What's taking so long?

The Geopak 2000 is pretty user friendly. What type of work do you do? It would be great for your Machine department and Floor inspectors in you have product for it. It can be fast than a height gage and sine plate. Just thought I would throw it out there. I know a guy back in Detroit that I could talk to. I could show them how to use it also. Maybe get me a free trip back home. If you are serous pm, I need pics and a price

The company I work for bought our Xcel 765 from them. Their prices were good when we bought it. The only problem I see with them is they don't always have CMM with PC-DMIS and Hexagon doesn't like giving you any support when something goes wrong 2-3 years down the road because you didn't buy a CMM from them.
