  • Updating Model

I have a program that I am currently programming, half way through I noticed the model was not at current revision. I'm now getting the current model and my question is, can I just re-import the step file into my current program and have it update my program. I know things like a tapped hole added I will have to add but what about, say a window that I've already got in my program that is now .1 larger?

    Thanks

    Dan

I dont think so. that would be cool though. I believe its all about redigiting the changed areas.

YOU CAN, if you dare, TURN ON the FIND NOMINALS and run the program in OFFLINE mode and it SHOULD (notice I said SHOULD) update the nominals to the new CAD data. I have tried it once and more than half the points picked the WRONG 'new' surface to pull the nominals from.

I've done that beforee with no problem, just click on replace, before you do anything. Should work.

          Thanks

Thanks, I'll let you know if I'm successful once my model gets here.

I'm in the process of F9'ing 2900 points in a partially written program that was programmed using the old model.
I had ran the program off-line with Find Nominals during execute turned on,
but because the changes to the model are great, it did not work.
What is the difference between the Find Nominals function and the Find Nominals during execute function?
Would I have had better luck with just "Find Nominals" turned on?

FIND NOMINALS should do the same no matter what mode you use it in (but I have yet to see BOTH those modes, what version are you using? I only see FIND NOMS). If you are using iterative alignments, it will screw you every time without fail. It rarely works like it should, which is why I gave you the 'IF YOU DARE' in my original post. Yep, it would sure be nice if it really worked, but doing it on a part will be no different than doing it off line. I really feel for ya pal, I really do. It has happened to me before too. Just get done programming a part, then have them say, Oh, by the way, there is NEW data for the aprt you have to use.

                Using V3.7 MR2 Build 6-24-05.
It has both find nominals and find nominals during execute (this always confused me).
third and nineteen entry down in Edit - Preferences - Setup - General.
                We always use iterative alignments.
Generally find nominals during execute works for us as long as execution find/nom tolerance is set to .10 or so (should be called find radius).
But this particular model, may as well be a different part.

OK, I see it, I guess I never paid that much attention to it, it is there in V3.5. I only have a few things marked there, so I only have to check it when I get a program in from a customer and they have different things marked and for some reason, Pcdmis ALWAYS uses what THEY had set and changes it to MY defaults. ANNOYING to say the least, and the last thing I have marked is ALLOW FINE TUNING of the alignments, so I don't really read what is below, I just make sure it is not marked.

                    No Success

I finally got my model... replaced existing step file, everything looks good. I ran offline with find nominals during execution with a tolerance of 5 (changes were 4 mm or less) and nothing updated. I tried it with find nominals and find nominals during execution and nothing changed. Just wondering if there is some thing else I should have done?

To make sure I did things right:

                    1) Replace model not merge
                    2) Check marked Find Nominals During Execution
                    3) Made find nominals tolerance 5mm, more than any of the changes.
                    3) Ran program offline

The changes were a line for a pocket that was opened up 4mm and a tapped hole that changed location by 3mm. This is not a show stopper, I only had about 15% of the program done, was just trying to learn something new if it could be done.

                    (ver3.6)

                    Thanks

                    Dan
