  • Square Slot Orientation

    Hello,
I seem to be having trouble with the square slot option. What is the proper way to pick the points to achieve the proper orientation/vectors?????
Round slots are not a prb,,,,wtf is with the square ones?

Take two points on longest side, one point on other longest side, then one point on one short and one point on the other short

2 points on long side, 1 point on short side, 1 point on other long side, 1 point on last small side, V3.7 MR3. I would think that they wouldn't change this. Of course, it USED to prompt you at the bottom of the screen while you were doing this, but that was one of the 'enhancements' that vanished.

          Hello,
This is what I was doing and the freaking thing kept showing up at almost 45 deg from the cad. I had to go into the vectors and change manually to get it to work. This could be a cad issue.......but it all looks fine. I think I tried 10 different variations of picking points,,,,,at the end of the day,,,,I definately needed a cold one!!! LMAO,,,have a great day and thanks for the input.

Hello, this slot is cut out with a strengthening bead in the middle. This I believe is causing me the trouble. Hey Matt, it does give the directions at the bottom of the screen, but still, following them does not fix it either. With the wire frame or surface mode not being on the same level, this causes the vectors to rotate the square slot out of orientation.
            Thanks for the help.

I have MR3 as well. It's running right now, but lots of times I don't see those helpful little directions anymore, they just don't show up. Yeah, if you have a non-flat surface that the slot is in, you will get some screwed up stuff. You could always do it the old, hard way (the way we ALL had to do it before they added square slot).

Measure 6 edge points, 2 on each long side, one each on the short sides, USE a surface sample hit for all. Then, construct a plane using the 4 points that are on the flat surface (assuming that is the way it works out!) and project ALL points into that plane. Construct lines using that plane (you may need an alignment for this) using the 2 points on each long side, then perp lines to thos lines using the single points on the ends, then construct the 4 corner intersections, then construct 2 more lines cross-corner, then an intersection point where they corss to get the center of the slot. MAN, that was a crappy way to do it, but I remember doing it that way before they added square slot.

Hey Matt, I'm doing that right now. All the technology, and still have to revert to old school methods. At least we know how to pull that ace out when we need it.

Is that a int of RHPS I hear in your post? (pull out the aces when the time is ripe)
