  • upgrade CMM cordax 1808 DCC

Hello, i've just been asked to upgrade this CMM's software, currently it is working with a 286 processor (which is no longer useful). I've read about Quadra-Chek 5300... but i would like to know which is better (i have no budget for now so price is not a problem). Also does PC-DMIS work with every CMM?

When I 1st started here we had an 1808 with PC-DMIS. It was already retrofited when I arrived, but i know it can be done. The huge expense is the PC-DMIS software itself......have fun

PC-DMIS is the best software available. I would go with version 3.7 MR3 to start. It would be much easier to learn than the latest version (4.2).
      Lately, it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it's been.

for a retrofit is it necessary for some specialist to do it or can i do it myself? I've been reading and apparently its necessary to modify the servo, is it really?

You will need a technician that has experience with this retrofit.
Of course I say that without knowing your experience.... maybe you have done something like this before.

            What is on it now?
I have ran an 1808 with PC DMIS and also with CMM Manager. If you have the money go for PC DMIS. It is the most widely used and supported CMM Software available and getting bigger. If money is a constraint then CMM Manager might be an option. I don't think the retrofit was too big a deal in either case. I know we had the same stock controller so there is a huge savings. PC DMIS alone is more than an eitir retrofit with CMM Manager.
I would say no to Quadra Check personally. I have run a few diff Quadra Check packages and while they are easy to operate they aren't what I would call 'serious' CMM Software.

Also, depends on what you are checking and if you will have CAD Models etc. I might catch some flack here but you can get A nice CAD Package with excellent capabilities for little $$ with CMM Manager. The same thing with PC DMIS will cost big $$ but you will have WAY more support from your peers.

            Application dependant.

Yes, I believe you have to completely replace the servo. You may actually have to change all your scales to aluminum if they are still glass. I'm not sure why but I remember them doing that several years ago when we upgraded our's to MMIV.

1808 do not have to have the MP replaced, maybe for PCDMIS the firmware has to be updated. The 1808 had SS scales not glass and the scales and reader heads do not have to be replaced(unless you want to). There are still plenty of parts for both MPs and reader heads...

The Sheffield system is still good today with an upgrade to CMM Manager or PCDMIS without any hardware change. Now Hexagon will tell you the MP needs tobe replaced, but the same company that does the upgrades for Hexagon was telling everyone that it was not necessary untill they became THE hexagon guys...
