I have mine at 1%. I think the biggest problem you would have is if there is a manual point staight down and someone hits too hard. I've had inspectors say it just fell off. But suspect abuse when taking manual points and not the program. I usually slow it down if I don't have much clearance just to make sure and speed up where I can but leave it at 1%.

I do this every week. I have a groove that is .03" and use a .5 (.02"), .005" per side clearance. I usually run my programs at 75% machine speed and 100% on the jog box w/ 1.5 touchspeed. With the .5 probe I use 25% machine speed and 50% on the jog box w/ 1.0 touchspeed. I ran a lot of test to see what kind of accuracy I was getting and this was what I ended up w/. It is well w/in .0001" of accuracy on my parts. I can measure them manually w/ an indicator, just takes a lot of time so I use the machine to save time.Dale

Same we use 0.5 probes a fair bit , usually rapid to and from tool changer at high move speed 80/100 % but drop move speed to 20% and touch speed 1% whilst probing. Havent broke one yet touch wood.. 2c
