  • +/-1 arc minute

We have a part that they want to tighten up the tolerance of the angle between two 1.500 in sq planes to +/-1 arc minute.

Is this more than my machine can handle?

    B&S Specs of my machine:

Repeatabilty, Measurement Uncertainty .0015 mm in each axis

Volumetric Preformance, Measurement Uncertainty .005 mm

    Thanks in advance

SINE of the angle (in decimal degrees) times the length of the surface = min-to-max deviation possible to stay in tolerance. Your machine should be 1/10 of that.

Usually, I get 1/2ยบ on a .030 long surface and they expect me to measure it!

Thanks Matt, and by those guidelines, my machine is only 1/2 of the tolerance.

I know what to tell them, they will still run them as this is a tightening of the tolerance from +/- 5 minutes. Which the machine is capable of.

        Thanks again
