    PCDmis v4.2
    Brown & Sharpe 'One'

I've been running a program all day with just the usual PCDmis software crashing every 2 hours or so. Usually I ctrl+alt+delete to kill the software, restart the software, reload the program and execute.

This time I encountered an Emergency Error that gives me the option of 'OK' (If I press that, the Emergency Error comes right back up) and 'Shut Down'.

I shut down, turn off the CMM, restart everything, including a machine start.

The machine start does not go as usual - the probe moves to the home corner, then slowly moves in the X axis almost to the mid point of it's maximum X+ travel. When I try to move back in the X axis past this limit, I get the Emergency Error again.

How do I reset this incorrect overtravel limit?

Does the error say exactly "Emergency Error"?

I'm going to guess an encoder or scale problem. Try cleaning your scales. Also try the following.

When you start pc-dmis watch the computer screen very carefully. Sometimes an error (I've seen this with encoder errors) will pop up and then disappear as pc-dmis starts. It will be very quick so you have to watch carefully and read quickly. I've actually had to close and re-start the software several times to be able to read the full message. When it is fully started another error will pop up like you describe and not go away unless you click shutdown.

The problem turned to be dirty scales. I used isopropyl alcohol and a lint free swab to clean them. Upon restarting the machine it homed correctly and everything worked as it should.

        Glad you're up and running.
