  • Fantom Hits

This is a program that we have used before. We take approximately 20 hits, on a plane, and we are getting, like 5 hits not even touching the part. But the machine IS beeping like it hit the part?? Crazy! What the..... ?? Any help would be great!

slipper57 Are the random hits at the start of the plane measurement? What probe are you using?

they are random... It may actually hit the 1st 10... miss the next 4.... hit once.... miss....etc...
      I am using 2mm dia/ renishaw/red

    I'm guessing that's a TP20 probe body?
Have you cleaned the ways and scales lately?

yes, we do at every re-start. Plus, we're in a climate controlled environment.

slipper57 Sometimes crazy stuff happens. I would redo that plane again just to eliminate that.

If it is not something in the physical build then possibly something is corrupted in your original probefile, delete the original and remake it from scratch in the software.

What probe body are you using? tp200? HP-THD? TP20?

we are using Tp20 probe body

i'd rehome the machine, and recalibrate all the probe angles again. if it's still taking fantom hits then maybe the probe tip is loose, too long, or the probe module is busted.

I have had this in the past. Restarted everything and recalibrated everything and it was fixed. It is crazy though that it happened equivalent to beheading a cockroach and it keeps living until starvation...

Are you using magnets to hold the part?

Probe build/, length/weight of stylus also matters.

Well I'd start first by restarting everything, which I assume you've tried. Then trying another probe module. Then a probe body. If those don't work, then try another program.

TP20 "INHIBIT" probes are sensitive to magnetic fields. You can buy "TP20 NON-INHIBIT" probes to mitigate it entirely.

This can happen with heavy stylus systems. Turn down accelerations (you would type ACCELERATION/MAXACCELX=5, MAXACCELY=5, MAXACCELZ=5, or whatever values solve the issue)
