Where abouts in the States are you guys considering? I hear great things about Texas. From Texans, everyone else says it is a backwards shithole but Texans seem to love it.

There are a lot of things to account for. Location, industry, experience, other duties involved, etc. Could range from $15 to $30 an hour. Just let your girlfriend move here alone. There are plenty of single male programmers here.

We have a number of ex-pat Brits here. (Other nationalities too) I could put you in touch with one or two if you really want. I have asked them why they moved here and the general answer is: "Pay is better and everything is cheaper. Have to work more in America, but the standard, (quality?), of life is much higher." The biggest downside they say is no national healthcare. They say we have better healthcare here than over there, but boy o boy do we pay for it. As for Craig's remarks about Texas, you have to remember he is in New York and therefore likely Jealous b/c he can't get good grits, BBQ, sweet tea, fajitas, etc.

Grits-had those when I lived in NC, didn't like them
BBQ-haven't had Texas style but you'd probably be hard pressed to beat NC, SC, GA, TN, AL. Those were all out of this world. You'll never be able to touch our chicken BBQs I am quite sure. I have a freind out you way I send Salameda's State fair sauce to. I'd be willing to bet you don't have speedies or crab cakes worth eating.
Sweet tea-should be illegal. Here you get it the right way, no sugar. If you want it sweet that is what the little packets in that little holder on the table are for.
Fajitas-I'm sure you've got us beat. I prefer tamales and enchaladas though which I am sure you still have a hold on.

For southern food how is your sausage, fatback, and pulled pork? I bet the South East has you on those. I really miss that stuff being back in NY. But then again I missed salt potatos, chicken wings, and speedies when I was down there, among other things. Something about Buffalo wings that folks outside the NE can't get them right.

At my place of employment - here it really, really depends on your employer - we get 11 paid holidays and I currently get 12 days paid vacation. Mine depends on how long I have worked for the company. After 5 years I'll bump up to 14 days paid vacation (2 weeks). After 25 years I'll get a whopping 25 days paid vacation (5 weeks).
