  • MCR20 Calibration

    Hey Folks,

I've got something goofy happening and maybe you know what I need to do to fix it.

I'm trying to calibrate our MCR20 probe changer. We used this before we switched to PC-dmis. I am following the instructions I found in the archives at this site, however when I get to the part where the machine should take the points automatically, it is running to about 6 inches above the rack and trying to take a hit. I take the first two points manually, hit the end button to start it and away it goes.
I am running 4.1 and using the 2X20 tip. I've also tried with the probe comp on and off. Same results.
    Seems like a setting somewhere.

      Thanks Dale,

Thats the thread where I got the instructions. Doesn't seem to be the same errors. I'm not even close to the rack when it trie to hit.

I'm going home now, I'll play with it more in the morning.

If you don't have the manual for the rack you can probably find it on the Renishaw site. It gives instructions on how to manually calibrate the rack if all else fails. Before I went that route I would examine the vectors and workplanes of my manual hits, that might be the culprit. HTH

          Where do you hit it?

Although it has recently changed slightly, calibration historically started with the two manual hits. An assumption was made that the rack was parallel to the X or Y machine axis. Hit 1 was in a horizontal plane (sideways) between slots 1 and 2. Hit 2 was in a vertical plane (downward) on top of the slots.

Where are you taking your 2 hits?

Why cant Wilcox allow PCDMIS to accept a stylus changer that is other than parallel to an axis?

              This thread is closed.
Our third shift figured out that I did something stupid.
              2X20 tip WITH NO EXTENSION!!!
It appears to be running well now.
              Thanks again,

                  Changed recently

When I said it was changed recently, that is what I was referring to. I did not see the point in getting into something un-related to his problem.

I believe it started with v4.2 (maybe even v4.1??) where you can mount some of the racks in a position not parallel to an axis. This includes racks like the MCR20, SCR200, and SP600 rack. It is specifically those racks which don't use "keys" to mount the probe (as does the ACR1). To do this requires one extra manual hit.

Thanks, Don... the inability to mount the rack at different angles has been a pain to say the least. I understand the reasons the ACR's cant be.
