  • Error Message when opening the "Starter" utility

    Don Ruggieri neil.challinor

    I just installed PC-DMIS 2020 R1 and 2022.2 on a new Windows 10 System.
To open different versions I also installed the "Starter" utility from https://downloads.ms.hexagonmi.com/Utilities/Starter
The installation went smoothly without error message.

But now when I open the utility the following two error messages show up:
    error starter.png

The error messages are in German.

The first one roughly translates to :
    "The culture is not supported.
    Parameter name: name
en_US is an invalid culture identifier"

The second one roughly translates to :
"The object pointer was not defined on an object instance"

This happens every time I open the utility and it wont let me interact with it.

It's a Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC (Version 1809) System with the language German (Switzerland)

I guess that it could have something to with the system language as the first error message mentions the en_US locale?

Is this a known issue? Can I somehow fix it?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi Aaron Baldauf ,

I think I found the cause for this exception. Build 211 now contains a potential fix.

    Please give it a try.

    Thanks for the finding.

    Gruß,
    Werner

And this is precisely why I maintain my equipment a full year (or more) behind current release. You are putting your company into the uncertainty of being a Beta tester otherwise.

        Hello whabermann

Thank you for the fast response!

I just installed the new version.

        The installation went smoothly.
On the first start I got the attached message.

        error starter2.png

On further starts this message didn't show anymore.
I could set up the two versions and everything works so far.

Thank you for your fast help.

        Greetings Aaron

Great, that is the expected behaviour. When the wrong CultureInfoName is deserialized from the settings file this message shows once when it get repaired.

            whabermann,
What file location is used for the User settings within the Setup Starter dialog window.

              Hi davehocum,

The user settings folder is a separate folder where you can collect all setting related files. The content of this folder is copied to the local appdata folder before PC-DMIS is launched.

Thank you whabermann for the detail information. I will give the User Settings a go with the Offline seat.
