  • Copy Auto Points

    Hello Again.

    I have a cylinder part and i created 5 points on one side. How can i copy the same points and rotate them 45degress exact.?

    Copy and paste with pattern

    B&S CHAMELEON/PCDMIS CAD++ V2011

    There are no bugs, only "UNDOCUMENTED ENHANCEMENTS!"

      Edit -> Pattern..

      Define the pattern.

      Copy the feature(s), then go to Edit -> Paste with Pattern

        Question time.......

        So when I create additional points using a pattern I usually go back through and F9 into the points and hit "Find Nearest CAD Element".

        I know this probably isn't required but I was curious what are your all's thoughts on it? Occasionally the vector will change very slightly (not enough to matter) but for the most part it doesn't change the theos.

        Obviously if there are a whole lot of created points I don't normally take the time to do this. I just hate the thought of not being perfectly in contact with the CAD surface.

        Am I just wasting my time? Probably so but I can't convince myself to stop doing it lol. And yes I understand it relies heavily on a solid alignment.

        Usually I don't need to. I guess it depends on alignment and/or CAD model creation.

          If 1: you selected the points on the cad correctly, 2: your alignment is robust, and 3: you CAD model doesn't have errors in it... Then it shouldn't matter at all, and yes, you are wasting your time Aside from flow controls and assign function... Paste with pattern is one of the most powerful tools the demon has to offer.

            Thanks guys. I will no longer waste any time........ As I respond to you guys about an answer I already knew deep down but couldn't seem to convince myself entirely.

                I like to check the nominals to the CAD model too, just to make sure a paste with pattern worked properly. Sometimes a part may look perfectly symmetrical/consistent, but not quite.

                The beauty is, if you are using auto vector points, there is a feature called 'Point Nominal Deviation'. It is under the Edit Menu - Graphic Display Window. That feature will compare all the vector points in your measuring routine to the CAD model and allow you to set an acceptable deviation between the point nominals and the model. If any points exceed that threshold, it will show up in a sortable list. It can be a great way to quickly check that a paste with pattern was done properly or works for your given part. There are a whole lot of other uses for this feature too if you get clever about it.

                  Thanks Cris,

                  I didn't know about this. Gonna give it a gander today once I finish my Pin over Pin spline measurements. (From one of my previous posts)
