  • Performing basic scans with touch probe?

I'm programming a part with some irregular surfaces that the Auto Feature isn't picking up. A co worker who used to work on CMMs years ago said that there is a way to scan surfaces with a touch probe. I looked and found Insert- Scan- Basic Scan, but I'm not sure how to use it, if it will even work for me at all. Is there a good tutorial for this feature somewhere other than the help file on the CMM? The help file is a little confusing.

Use linear open or linear closed scans.

Those options are greyed out for me.

Scan option works only in DCC Mode, If you are in manual mode then the options will be grayed out.

Sounds like you do not have CAD++

No, I don't. Do I need it to perform a basic scan?

So this won't work for me then?

I'm not being obtuse on purpose, I just haven't had time to drink my coffee yet.

You can do basic scans (as opposed to the Advanced scans) without CAD++ version.

These are limited to a few types. Line, Circle etc.

What feature/geometry are you trying to measure?

They are external flange features on a part we"re 3D milling. Auto Features isn't picking them up, so I thought maybe if I could scan them it would be quicker and easier for me to program.

As NinjaBadger says, you can perform basic scans with a CAD or CAD++ license or if you specifically have the scanning option added to your license. I would start by taking a look at the help documentation here : https://docs.hexagonmi.com/pcdmis/20...asic_Scans.htm

Thanks for the link! I'll start there.
