  • Stopping Advanced Linear Open Scan

    Can you use a simple variable from a "test hit" on the end of a piece of sheet metal to control where a Linear Open Scan stops. Not using CAD .

    Scanning across a piece of sheet metal, small edge, that changes. I do not want to scan off of the part and I want to use a sample hit to control where the scan stops.

    I do not know if this will work, and it may be different in your version
    Code:
    A1 =AUTO/VECTOR POINT,SHOWALLPARAMS = YES
    THEO/1812.618,-114,515.302,0,-1,0
    ACTL/1812.618,-114,515.302,0,-1,0
    TARG/1812.618,-114,515.302,0,-1,0
    ACTL_THICKNESS = 0,RECT,SNAP = NO,$
    AUTO MOVE = NO,DISTANCE = 30

    ASSIGN/V1 = A1.EX
    ASSIGN/V2 = A1.EY
    ASSIGN/V3 = A1.EZ
    H002 =FEAT/SCAN,LINEAROPEN,SHOWHITS=YES,SHOWALLPARAMS=YES
    EXEC MODE=NORMAL, NOMS MODE=FINDNOMS,CLEARPLANE=NO,SINGLEPOINT=NO,THICKNE SS=0
    FINDNOMS=15,SELECTEDONLY=NO,USEBESTFIT=NO,PROBECOM P=YES,AUTO MOVE=NO,DISTANCE=0,CADCompensation=NO
    DIR1=LINE,INCR=2.54
    HITTYPE=VECTOR
    INITVEC=0,-1,0
    DIRVEC=0,0,-1
    CUTVEC=1,0,0
    ENDVEC=0,-1,0
    PLANEVEC=0,0,1
    POINT1=1856,-114,522.924
    POINT2=1856,-114,444.625
    MEAS/SCAN
    BASICSCAN/LINE,SHOWHITS=YES,SHOWALLPARAMS=YES
    1856,-114,522.924,V1,V2,V3,CutVec=1,0,0,DirVec=0,0,-1
    InitVec=0,-1,0,EndVec=0,-1,0,THICKNESS=0
    FILTER/DISTANCE,2.54
    EXEC MODE=RELEARN
    BOUNDARY/PLANE,1856,-114,444.625,PlaneVec=0,0,1,Crossings=1
    HITTYPE/VECTOR
    NOMS MODE=FINDNOMS,15
    ENDSCAN
    ENDMEAS/
    NOTICE where I put the variables V1, V2, V3
    Again, I do not know if this will work.

      As Matthew D. Hoedeman says, that may not work for an advanced scan - I've never tested it. I'm pretty sure it would work for a basic scan though as there are many instances I've had to use variables to set the various basic scan parameters and I have usually been able to get it to work. Although the advanced scans contain basic scan information within their command syntax in the edit window, I'm not sure they have the same level of accessibility and some of the things you are able to do with a straight forward basic scan may get over-ridden in advanced scans.
