How can I change the default for the manual prehit/retract?
Manual prehit/retract

I want to change the machine setting. I don't want to insert it into the program. The new machines we bought have .100 in the default. We have older machines that do not have a manual prehit/retract default distance. We have over 1000 programs in a configuration system that I don't want to have to edit, just so they will run on the new machines.

the manual retract is preventing programs from running? I'm not sure I can see how unless you are manual probing small internal features in that program... what is the difficulty when you run the old program on the new machine? I don't think everybody is talking about manual retract in replies. Most of my programs take no manual hits and I could not care less what the manual retract is set to

If I'm remembering correctly, you can set the manual retract (or turn it off completely) in the FDC interface - assuming it's a new machine with a fdc controller. You should have a shortcut on the PC desktop.
If it's not an FDC controller you can type MANRETRACT into the edit window and set it there. The only exception, I think, is Sheffield controllers. I'm pretty sure for those, it is a hard coded value that can only be edited inside the controller by a service engineer.

yes, no matter what I do in code or any dialogue window setting... I cannot change the manual retract with my sheffield. There might be something in the settings editor I haven't found yet I'm not sure about that

The entries in the settings editor would have no effect on the manual retract behaviour with a Sheffield controller. It is handled by the Sheffield firmware rather than at a software level which is why it can only be edited by a service engineer.
