    Hi Everyone

    First time posting on here, I hope you guys can help me out. I'm fairly new to PC DMIS and I'm stumped on the best way to measure the distance from one plane to another angled plane at a particular gauge height called out. The attached sketch is representative of the drawing.

    I would measure two vertical planes and one horizontal plane. Horizontal plane I would use to create offset plane in 3.0 height then intersect vertical planes with offset plane. Result will be two lines in height 3.0. DIM "A" will be distance between lines. Instead of planes can be used lines, then result will be distance point to point.

      I'm not sure what the part actually looks like from this. There are plenty of different ways depending on the features involved. You could offset a plane up the basic distance from a copy of the bottom plane. Or level and origin to the bottom, offset the alignment up the basic dimension, then create an alignment plane. Alignment planes are workplane dependant.
      Then intersect the new plane with the angled plane and distance to the intersection.

        Measure point on right hand wall at 3.0 from bottom

        Measure left hand wall to find angle.
        Measure point on left hand wall, approaching at angle vector at 3.0 from bottom.

        Report distance between points.

          The problem with that is if the angled wall is off "location" at 3.0 up, the probe will NOT touch at 3.0 up and give a false return.

          The problem with 3 planes and intersecting lines and distance between lines is that it won't work either if there is any angle deviation to either side wall (in the direction of the picture), you won't get the correct value either.

          Plane on the bottom
          Plane on the right
          Plane on the left
          Plane constructed 3.0 up from bottom plane
          Line intersection of 3.0up plane and right plane
          Line intersection of 3.0up plane and left plane
          Plane on FACE
          Plane on REAR
          Intersect both lines with both front/rear planes
          2-D distance between 'rear' points
          2D distance between 'front' points
