  • Y axis drive belt tensioner clicking

    Hello everyone,

We recently got a Global S CMM a few months ago.
A few weeks ago we noticed a slight clicking sound when the machine moved in the Y axis, it was slight but enough to be noticeable.

This morning when running the machine, it seems to have gotten worse. Before it was a periodic thing, now its doing it's clicking almost constantly.
I saw another post that someone was having a similar issue and that the belt had worn down and stretched, I find this to be somewhat unlikely as it's pretty much a brand new machine.

As far as we can tell the noise is coming from the tensioner itself, but nothing seems loose or out of order bedside the clicking sound.
Has anyone had a similar issue before?

    Thanks.

We have a 153010 Global Advantage that was purchased new near the end of 2017. It started clicking during Y travel in early 2019. When the tech came to do our annual cal., he found that the Y axis follower/idler pulley assy was/had gone bad. The replacement set was just under $1300 from hexagon. Haven't had any issues since being replaced. The Hex part # for our machine was

    G16883400
    $1277.00 plus shipping

Does the idler pully assembly going bad effect the accuracy of the machine?

It definitely has the potential. Whether or not you can see that, really depends on the tests you're performing and the accuracy of the step bar or "master" part you're using to "check" the machine.

If this is a new machine it should be under warranty, contact service to get a tech to take a look at it.

We've tried and have been unsuccessful in trying to talk to a tech.
