    Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well.

    Here's my situation.
    i have a part, it's a rod approx. 12'' with a tricky configuration. Rod centerline is datum -A- and at the end of the rod is a drilled hole in the middle of the centerline and that is datum -C-.

    There is a profile callout at X distance from -C- and centered to -A-. So a profile .001 -A,C-.

    The profile is made during the turning of centerline of -A-. Next up is to drill -C-.

    -C- needs to be absolutely perfect. There is an alternative plane I am using as Y origin, which I am then creating an offset point to simulate -C-.

    I want to be able to offset the alignment in an attempt to find where the machine shop needs to put DAT -C- so that we can get the profile as close as possible.

    Whenever I do this, I get asked the whole "DO YOU WANT TO UPDATE COMMANDS TO NEW CS "YES" "NO" " and based on my answer it will move the results...…


    except for the profile.

    No matter what I adjust I can't get the profile results to move back and forth. The linears will move in accordance to how much I offset, but the profile results will stay the same.

    What do I need to "adjust" to move the measured profile points so that I can tell the machine shop where to place datum -C-?

    after more experimenting it seems like adjusting the theoretical location of the offset point simulating -C- is helping move the results of the profile around. Is this doing what I want it to do?

      Could you post a stripped down print? Maybe some code?

        are you sure that your profile is set to FORM & LOCATION? Form only will 'never' change based on the alignment

            see if the pics work

            in the above code I am able to manipulate THEO feature at Y -.625 which is simulating -C- if it were actually there.

            as I change the theoretical Y location then the profile is moving in the direction I want. This allows me to tell the machine shop that -C- needs to be "x" distance from that face in order to try and get the profile as close as possible to nominal form.

            why doesn't the profile move when I alter the actual A6 alignment? why isn't offsetting Y in the alignment doing the same thing?

              If I wanted a production aid dimension then I would just use a Constructed circle using a gauge diameter on the cone then report the axis error I wanted.

                ahhhh I see. I created an intersection circle from -A- to the cone. Seems to work the same way. Good suggestion.

                  it's a minimally dimensioned drawing. profile /A---B/ A starts the first arrow to the left of the pic I just missed it when I made the screen shot.

                  I think I figured out how to manipulate the scan data by moving the THEO point back and forth.
