  • PC DMIS acronym?

    Hello everyone,

I am a newbie to this software; however, not with metrology in general. I am coming from an older Starrett machine running "Measure Manager" on an OS2 Warp OS. I just recently attended a Hexagon training course, but forgot to find out what it actually stands for. I have googled it many times yet all I can come up with is PC DMIS is more or less the "Kleenex" of tissue. My guess is Personal Computer Dimensional Measurement Inspection Software. The transition is taking time, but definitely worth it. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thanks,
    EC

I'm sure we can all come up with another name than what it is actually supposed to stand for but if I remember correctly, I believe you are right on top of it...

I'd call it a lucky guess then. Anyone else have any insight?

Yours looks pretty good. A la Ranger's answer I will withhold my personal interpretation

When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

Specification. Which PCDMIS has no connection, or compliance with. It is marketing hype. I think the PC stands for what the OP guessed.

Ooops. Neither one of us plagerizes well. Cut and pasted from the link above.

DMIS ohh don't get me started. This typically is what happens when I get to program somebody's "Dmis compliant" software.
                Enable software
                Set up probes
                set machine parameters
                (get Dmis Book)
                Software responds:
                syntax error
                (get earlier Dmis book)
                write alignment routine
                save alignment
                Software responds:
                syntax error
                (get latest dmis book online)
write measuement for two hole and construction between
                report value
                Software responds:
                syntax error
                (get dmis book)
                Software responds:
                syntax error
                (et earlier dmis book)
                Software responds:
                syntax error
                call software tech supoort
                tech responds
                send_output: buffer/
                write/buffer.,
                print/buffer,,
open note pad and save the five lines of code needed to print output.
                measure another circle.....

                get the Idea?
DMIS is only a standard if everyone follows it. It seems to me to be more of Dimensional Measurement Interface Salespitch.
