  • Issue with 5 Part Study appending

    I am currently trying to use the "5 Part Study" template within the Excel Form Report option in PC-DMIS 2019 R2. I have followed all instructions in the Hexagon Help website and still can get the report to function properly. I would like to be able to save the measurement data just like the form in the "5 Part Study" template. However, "part #2" data just overwrites the data in the" part #1" column rather than placing it into the "part #2" column.

    I have searched the forums extensively and can't find a good answer. I don't want to have to manually write lines of code or Excel macros if the software already has the capability to perform this task. Has anyone solved this problem. I may just be missing something simple and don't know it.

    Thanks for your help in advance!

    Does the original "5 Part Study" work as expected?

    If Yes, you have probably missed that you have to define the {Measured value} for every column you may want to use, and size the data area (yellow) accordingly.

      The original "5 Part Study" does NOT work as expected. It just overwrites the data in part #1 column.

        "5 part study" works for me in 2019 R2 SP2, but I have to change the setting for the generated file name, else it writes a new file for each run. Do not include Date and Time in the file name (and if you change the Serial number for each run, remove that too from the file name):

          I have followed these setting that you have posted to another thread. Still won't append the file. I have attached the setting i have been using. I have also tried different ways and still remain stumped. I am also using 2019 R2 SP2.

            Have you done any edits of the template in Excel? I have noted strange things happening, depending on invisible changes in Excel (formatting?, I don't know - I only know that it workd with the original, but not with a modified file).

            What Excel are you using, what version of Windows? I run Office 365, Excel version 1908 (11929.20516 Click&Run), Windows 10.

              Currently using Windows 10 and was using Office 2007. I decided to upgrade to Office 365 and try that. However, I'm getting the same results. I haven't knowingly modified the original file. I have attached a screen shot of the XML file associate with this "5 Part Study" template. Does it match what your XML file looks like?

                  Yes, the template is preloaded with the {measured value} in the columns under header #1, #2. etc.
                  How does the software know to append to a specific column? Am i missing a variable related to serial number or stat number the would determine the column in which the data is stored?

                In the program you should have somthing like this last or after what you want to output ,, and do not forget... in the DATA tab to mark what you want to be reported.
                EXCEL_FORMULÄR1=EXCELFORMREPORT/TEMPLATE=Duglighet, TYPE=XLSX

                  I have double checked this information and still have the same issue. We have a Hexagon applications engineer schedule for an on-site next month. I will reviewed this issue with the tech and post our findings. Thanks for looking into this for me.

                IT WORKS! The Hexagon applications engineer came to our facility for some on-site training. The tech found that the 5 PART STUDY was not working properly and hadn't seen this issue before. As it turns out, the problem was with the permissions in Window 10. In order to overwrite/append the Excel file, PC-DMIS must have the permissions to do so. To fix the issue, when opening PC-DMIS, you need to select " run as administrator" by right clicking the icon and selecting it in the drop down menu. I am now able to use the preloaded 5 PART STUDY template and also use my own customized Excel forms. As a side note, the permissions also interfered with exporting and obtaining data via DataPage+.
