  • why does the aligenemet require the 6 degrees of freedom ?

    Hello

I understand that metrology and the science of measurment in general are related to GD&T but why would pc dmis or the cmm machine require the 6 DOF , cant it just be the origin of each axe to be set and to determine where the part is , why do we have to limit the orientation ?

this might be a stupid question but im still learning and trying to find answers , thank you

If you just set the origin, you can obtain those two cases, which are really different !!!!!

The coordinates of each corner are different, except the origin...

you're certainly not forced to constrain all 6...but you could end up with some messed up stuff if you don't...ie. crashed probes, bad results, etc. etc.
