  • Probe.dat for a star probe bought from renishaw

    https://www.renishaw.com/shop/Produc...ct=A-5000-7811

Would anyone have an idea how to build this in my usrprobe.dat file? I have built regular styli and cylinders but this one confuses me.

    Thanks ahead of time!

The EXTEN5WAY is 7mm wide. With the 1by3 on each side wouldn't that make the total span 13mm?

I'm gonna be honest and say I haven't dug into the specifics but here's my assumption. Somehow the "tipstar" vs "tip" compensates. If you were to use EXTEN5WAY with TIP 1X3 in each position then yes, I suspect the span would be 13mm. But by using "TIPSTAR" the software knows its a prebuilt star? Honestly, this particular stylus was configured before I was employed. I only have a couple programs that use it. It calibrates and reports good dimensions on a ring gauge. I've never really thought about it before now, so... thanks... one more thing I need to do...LOL. The other thing is, I use a 5X50 stylus as a Cal. Sphere because it will shank on a 1" or .75" sphere...

Not sure if you got an answer to this, but I had to build the 20mm span version of this yesterday. this is how I built it in the probe.dat file.

I am using this purely as a star probe, so there is no tip screwed into the m2 thread attachment perpendicular to the star body. If you need this add the text in red.

To build the actual star body without the tips.

There are plenty of posts on how to use the probe.dat / userprobe.dat files if your not familiar.

Build it as below. Tip 1 will point to X plus @ A0B0 if you only used the 4 connect points.
