  • Scanning and measuring a chamfer with a profile tolerance

    Hello All,

    I am having trouble with scanning a chamfer to report profile of a surface. I was thinking if taking multiple rotors scans, but I just cant seem to get it to work right.

    The chamfer lays on a 2.00 dia. And yes profile of a surface on a chamfer.

    Suggestions?

    Construct a bfre cone from scans and dimension it ?

      Do you have CAD? Take Autopoints on the chamfer, construct a feature set from them, and dimension profile of the feature set. If you don't have CAD, can you create an autocone on the chamfer typing the dimensions in? Then you can dimension the profile of the cone.

        Wouldn't creating and measuring a cone give me an average of the cone instead of evaluating each point on the surface?

        How do you create a circular scan of points without it being a circle?

          FYI.

          Creating a cone is incorrect. It is only an average and not evaluating every point.

          In my opinion and how I was trained from an ASME board member...all POINTS on the surface must fall within the profile tolerance zone. Not a cone or so forth.

            With PC-DMIS you can check the profile of lines, circles, cones, cylinders, etc. and it does evaluate the individual hits for that feature. In the example below some hits are up to .00015 in the plus material direction and some are up to .00012 in the minus material direction.
