What is the best way to align to a part with all wavy surfaces?

  • #2
Iterative alignment would be best for that

      Iterative or Best Fit.

I think you want to use an iterative alignment. Maybe others can chime in...

JacobCheverie I don't know if an iterative will work. I'd try an iterative instead.

            Don't flag me bro...

I'd wave back at the surfaces.

Now that's just downright out of tolerance.

Ok... This has turned into a s*** show but we are having fun.

On a serious note, an iterative alignment is what you want.

Let me reiterate the iterative for ya.

I tried the iterative alignment and could not get it to work. I ended up getting it to work using a best fit 3d vector least square with no weights.

How did the iterative not work (no joke here)? I haven't run across a part yet where an iterative wouldn't get the job done.

Can you post a pic of the part or a general sketch (in case of ITAR or proprietary)?

I'm not doubting you at all. On the contrary, I'm just wondering why it didn't work in case I run into a similar part.

At least they're friendly. I can't tell you how many times I've tried engaging my parts in small talk....

BTW, did anybody mention iterative? Somehow, I don't think it'll work here... Can't really say why. Hmmm
