  • Measuring round slots

    Hey folks,

I dug through the forums a bit and have found that, as I assumed, this problem is not unique to me.

PC-DMIS apparently doesn't much like measuring round slots correctly.

What is the best approach on measuring a round slot to get accurate data?

I'm attaching a picture of the slot I'm currently working with, but I've had others that are larger and and longer that have provided more challenge than this one in particular.

This particular slot, for reference, is 8mm x 10mm, and I take all slots with 3 sample hits.

What is your basis for saying that Dmis doesn't measure measure slots correctly ?

I was wondering the same thing,as I don't have any problems doing slots especially if it is with a cad model

in round slot features they only take measurements at the 2 ends of the slot nothing on the legs of the round slot only on square slots do they take points on the legs of the slot

Use a square slot and use half the width of the slot as the corner radius size.

set the slot angle in the auto feature to 180, you will then see the probe hit the flat of the slot. I also usually do a remeasure just to make sure, (not that our slots would ever be off location.

My basis is the other posts I've seen of other people having issues, and every slot I've been setting up needing far more tweaking and finagling to measure correctly.

When checked with pin gauges, calipers, or even just looking at the slot with the naked eye, reality does not match what PC-DMIS is spitting out by default.

As opposed to a hole, where I can tell it to take 3 sample hits to level it off, and it just measures it correctly without the extra effort.
