  • Two open programs on two monitors

Is there a way to have two pcdmis programs opened on two monitors? I have a weld assy program and a final assy program, I need to compare the two programs to make sure what needs to be the same is just that, ex. feature id's, dimensioning and whatever else. I know I can go back and forth using "window", it would seem to be easier to just look at both monitors at the same time and adjust the open program to match the offline program. Thanks for any input.

It is not possible as far as I know. There is some 2nd party software that will let you do a file compare. I believe it will still need converted into some kind of text file.

COPY/PASTE program text into notepad, then open new program and compare.

I was thinking of copy / paste sections and make adjustments as I see the need. It would be nice if programs could be opened on separate monitors, stamping, weld and assembly at the same time when needed. Maybe if we yell loud enough, Hexagon will hear. "HEY! HEXAGON! CAN YOU MAKE TWO + PROGRAMS OPEN ON TWO + MONITORS AT THE SAME TIME? All I hear is silence, lol.

You could also export each file as BASIC/DMIS, or save each program text in a text file and then write a custom script through any language to scan text files and search for similarities/differences.

I save both programs as text (select all, copy, open notepad, paste), and use the free WinMerge program to do comparisons.

I think part of the problem with this is that the system will only allow the first program open to be functional. Any programs opened after that are strictly read only, IIRC.

edit: Yeah, I just tried it, and it wouldn't even let me shrink the second one to look at the first...

That's not quite true - the first program opened is online, the rest are offline (no contact with the machine), but all open programs are equally editable. You switch between them with the Window main menu item. You can mark and copy code from one program, switch window, and paste into another. But there is no way to see more than one program at a time.

This is true. I do this all the time(not that Andersl needs my validation)

Of course, that's not completely true either, but the 'solution' is not very practical/economical: You need two separate licenses, one portlock and one LMS (at least one of them pure offline), you run one PC-DMIS in a VM (Virtual Machine) using the portlock, and the other in the host computer using the LMS.

Microsoft Office Word can very effectively compare printed PDF files of the edit window.

Why do you have two routines to measure the same part? I would consolidate the two, and use flow controls to skip the stuff that is or isn't measured at each specific operation.
