  • Auto Calibrate Tool Rack?

We recently began using INSPECT as an operator interface. So far, everything has worked out great. The programs are locked down and I no longer have to repair existing production programs every day.
I wrote individual Auto Calibrate programs for each probe so that the operators can easily calibrate as needed from the INSPECT software without opening PC DMIS and without running INSPECT as administrator.

My question is: Is there a way to write a tool rack calibration into a program? The only way I know how to do it is manually through PC DMIS and only in online mode. The goal is to keep users out of online mode, so I would really like to find another way to do calibrate the probe changer.

The probe changer is a Renishaw SCR200. PC DMIS 2018 R1.

Any help would be very appreciated as this is the only thing keeping our operators from using INSPECT exclusively.

    Thanks in advance!

    Jon

Not that I know of. Why would you need to calibrate the probe rack on a regular basis?

      This.

I've calibrated my probe rack once in 5 years.

in the 3 years on this particular machine we calibrated the probe rack once because we moved it and once because the file was corrupted. i agree with bfire85 and NinjaBadger unless there's an issue with the rack i can't think of a reason you would need to calibrate it.

I calibrate my probe and stylus racks when and only when I get a crash during probe change. That happened once in the past 4 years and I had to do it again when I replaced the wrist. Regular calibration of rack does seem a bit nuts

unless he means to calibrate the (probes in the) rack.

The rack would not need calibrated on a regular basis. In the event that it did need calibrated (by an operator), I would like to find a way to do this without accessing PC DMIS online mode.

We do not calibrate the rack often, but occasionally it will get bumped or someone will forget to rotate the head back to zero before a tool change (we have an older machine with a manually indexed head).

Has anyone done this? Or tried?

        I'm about 99.9% sure you can't do this....(currently)

Maybe they'll "enhance" PC DMIS soon and give us this capability

          Interested, looking into this....

Update: nope, the files I thought I could write to manually are compiled and unreadable. Can't. Ask Hexagon.

As far as I know it's not possible. This is a bit too deep into the machine configuration than I would expect most people would want their operators poking at.

To Calibrate the Rack, You would have to remove the probes, that's more bumping, to what you call an unstable rack. Maybe invest in a more stable rack?

                Or an auto indexing head.
