  • Where to find Resources

I’m pretty new to PCDMIS and my company hasn’t sent me to any courses yet, so I would like to know where can I find some resources like books or guides to start learning by myself.

Right here! Ask questions. Read past post and use the help files!

      PCDMIS has a Help file.

      It’s somewhat helpful.

            F1 key

Highlight something in your code and press F1, or press F1 with an interface window open... the help page does an ok job opening the relevant page

I learned this on PcDmis but to my surprise it also works the same in other non CMM related software that I use too!

Printout the Core manual for your version and read, read, read.

                Step #1
Don't get stuck at "my company hasn't sent me and it's too expensive for me...."! I've seen many capable folks do this unfortunately, make it happen, as long as you're in front of a CMM and have access to internet you're unstoppable.

                Step #2
                Read everything you can.

                  +1 to the above.

It's basically a two step brain exercise:.
                  1. Read
                  2. Absorb
(loop the above until just about insane)

Then, IF bulb won't burn dim some, then ask at forum or use SMA wampum to call the Hex-O-Savants.

                    ^^^This^^^

I'm self taught, as my company has decided to send other (no longer with the company) people...

I learn every day, whether by checking out Youtube, or reading through the issues guys are going through right here. It gives me a little bit of a heads up for when I encounter some of the issues.

The biggest issue I've come across is not knowing what I don't know. PM me. No question too basic. I'll be glad to help where I can, and if I can't, I'll steer you toward those that might.

If you give as much information as you can (without showing proprietary information), and phrase your question as clearly as you can, these guys will be more than helpful.

Try to use the search feature for what you want to know. (there ARE a few here that have tired of answering the same question each time a new face appears, and I can't really blame them) If it's not a topic that's easily found that way, go ahead and ask. This group has a lot of knowledge that they're willing to share. Just be polite, and straight forward.

Also, HexagonMetrologyU . com (no spaces) has quite a few free courses that will help familiarize you with the system (s) you're using (there are certificates awarded after each). There are also a couple there that are moderately priced, and can help as well. At the very least, you can show your employer that you're grasping the system, and might inspire them to send you to school.

Sometimes I like to open up the PCDMIS core manual and flip through it. It's a 30MB pdf that should be readily available (?). I have it on my desktop and open it up when I get bored.
I also like to troll this forum. You learn A LOT here!!

ive been to just about every class hexagon offers. it gave me a good start but ive learned the most by running into something i didn't know how to do and either found the answer searching the forum or asking a question and getting great responses.
