  • Lower level matrix

Do I do the lower level matrix first, before I qualify any of the styli?

    Depends on the situation.
Was the machine just calibrated by Hexagon? (Technician performing the calibration should have done this before they left you)
    Did you suffer a crash?
    New install?
    Changed probe head?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, yes.

You have to perform it with your master probe, reset to theo and saying yes the sphere moved (yes dcc can be enough).

to answer your question literally, yes.

to answer the overriding question: you should only be doing the lower matrix in certain situations. You should not be doing a lower matrix just willy nilly before each probe cal.

I concur! And to add.... (IMHO) your Master should be a tough sergeant for your probe privates/pawns........ use a 5MM x 20MM or similar.
Hopefully, that's one stiff hombre' to show lead with SD on the ceramic Einstein for the rest of them wet noodle probe configurations!

I think we need to know the probing system before recommending a stylus!
Some systems require a predetermined stylus for the lower matrix calibration.

What probing system do you have UKCHAMP?
Tell us a little more about your machine, so the best advise can be offered.

          Probing system is a HP-S-X1C, on a 443 dual z Optiv.

As sealevel said above, use a Ø5L20, it should be the best tip to perform the lower matrix.
