  • Using Exact Measure

I am using exact measure to measure the true position using the CAD. What I need to do is change the measured nominals. How can I do that. Sometime I am about .0005 and need to change to the proper number.

You should be able to at the bottom of the advanced tab in exact measure dialog box.

In 2019? I didn't see where I could do that.

    Howdy Darrollh,

If you aren't familiar with my quirks, just read closely and expect plenty of sarcasm and some inside jokes you may not comprehend. I have to make these replies entertaining for my own sake, and if others enjoy too, that's just bonerus.

Have you asked the question, "Why do I need to change the nominal?".

The first reason that comes to mind is sloppy CAD. If this is the case, if the nominal is in fact a funkyjunky number, like 42.0005 instead of 42.0000, then the real (IMNSHFO) answer is you need to get engineering to fix their frickinfrackin CAD. Yeah, yeah, I know, good luck with that. One way to sanity check if it is the CAD that is borked is to measure or pull the nominal data from the CAD in the CAD package rather than in Pc-Dmis. If you get that pesky fiver instead of the glorious goose egg in the CAD package too, then you know it's them not you.

There is also a possibility this stems from an incorrect or unstable alingment you created in the measurement routine. Should that be case, then it's you who needs to make the frickingfracking fix.

Making the correction in Xact as BKulpa indicated is the last chance correction. However whenever I encountered this problem for the first time while writing a new routine, I went back to where the feature was measured to put a hairy eyeball on the theoreticals and usually the alingment too. It's best practice in my book to unborken the situation there, at the source, rather than lipstick the pig with touchup paint at the time of dimensioning.

All that said, sometimes there is nothing you can do but gnash the chompers and gussy it up in the advanced tab of Xact. I have not used v2019, but in all the versions I have used Xact in, at the bottom of the advanced tab is a table that shows X,Y,Z, size, and tolerance for features and datums in the FCF. As I recall there is a tick box on the left hand side* that if not checked the data is not part of the calculation, (for example single axis position might only have X or Y checked instead of both). To make a change, click the field to highlight, or double click to make the cursor active in the field, then enter your correction, then press TAB. You must TAB out of the field or else the change will not be stored. Also make sure if there is an "APPLY" button to click it BEFORE you click OK for the same reason.

In my experience the tab out and apply guidelines are necessary in many but not all software platforms. I have never seen it cause a problem when it isn't necessary, but plenty of headaches if not adhered to when it is.

HTH and if not, try to post a screen shot of the advanced tab window in Xact and indicate which nominals are giving you heebeejeebees. Code snippets showing feature measurement and alingment might also help us to help you keep that CMM machine making the green beeps rather than the red ones.
(Did I just date myself by revealing my preference for v3.2063 color schemes?)

    Happy Father's Sunday!
