  • HP-S-X1H Scanning Probe touch speed

I was told by Hexagon support to use 2mm per second touch speed but when the tech was here to calibrate my machine he was using 5mm per sec. what do you use?

2mm is perfect for me. I have tried 5, seems a little rough. anything under 1mm ball, I'll drop it down.

are you using fast probe mode?

I was thinking of trying 4mm per sec because two is just so slow.

we use 2mm/sec if you need to speed up a program you can use fast probe mode and possibly shorten the prehit retract distance

It depends on the probe. 2mm/sec is too slow for some Renishaw probes, at least. I don't remember which ones, though.

I have PH10/SP25 (NOT what you have!), HexTech used 6mm/sec when setting up the machine. I use 6mm touch speed for 'points' (SP25 or TP20), for scanning, it will depend on the shape I am scanning, up to 6mm/sec, down to 1mm/sec.

i would recommend whatever touch speed you do use,use the same speed to calibrate your probe tips

I have the same probe you are using and I generally have my touchspeed at 5mm/sec. This is also the speed that our Hex tech uses.

are you using fast probe mode when you have it at 5mm per sec?

No. I rarely use fast probe mode.

Are you sure he was using 5mm/s ?
I was told by hex tech touch speed should be 2mm/s, no 1, or 3,4. just 2. all others parameters are set up to 2mm/s.
5mm/s was scanning speed during yearly calibration.

Yes. I have had 3 different Hex techs in here over the last 3 years and all 3 used 5mm/s.

I opened a hexagon ticket a while ago about our probes:

"A TP20 is typically going to use a touch speed of 5-6 mm/s. However, it is common to slow that down for long or thin styli that might flex at the higher touch speeds.

A LSPX1H is typically 2 mm/s. Again this might slow down for certain occasions.

                    Best regards,
                    Matt Beecher"

Due to that suggestion, I just program/calibrate everything at 2mm/s (including our tp20) so that we can open the same programs on any machine.
